back Nanny's (Martha) Siblings, children of Walter & Alma Kallio
A clipping from a local newspaper, probably from the early 60s, hand-written at the bottom,
Under Pictorial History of Delta County. Nanny & her siblings, 1925-6, brother Bob, Donald and Leslie. Over the
years Bob & Leslie would drop in at Nanny's and there would be constant laughter. They were a pair of characters.

"Brother Leslie & Donald" There's an earlier shot of this tar-paper shack on the Walter Kallio page. Apparently
early on they lived in some primitive places, as the next shot, but the photos were always labeled something
like, "home sweet home", apparently fond memories despite the hardship. Walter's job took them places.

"Harold Hill, Leslie & Donald on the horse, Bob standing in front." Alma was a Hill before marrying Walter.

repeating these two (above) to show a little more context
Apparently this was the place for photographing the family. Nanny at maybe 16? Written
on the back (It's a postcard) "all the kids". Too much!
Below are shots of Uncle Johnny, his high school grad photo and then in 1930... died of TB.
Hit the family hard I think, much loved. 1910-1938
Donald below. Though I hardly knew him - he lived in lower Michigan - there seem to be more photos of him for some
reason. The second from left, second row, 1940. on the back, "Just a gal from Madton and me. I've had a few too many I
guess. So don't laugh." Donald died of cirrosis, early sign of alcoholism here. All three brothers fought in WWII.

Donald's wedding above then later shot with family. Lived in LaPeer, Michigan... didn't see much of him. Had the
opportunity, in fact my Father suggested I look him up when I was at Michigan State but I was too focused on ME.
Below is Bob, suited up for WWII. He served in the Pacific and had an intersting collection of Japanese weaponry.
Even there I'm told he was laughing all the time. I think he and Leslie served together. At least they made it sound
so in their stories.

Obviously a later shot above right, with Donald's alcoholism evident: Martha, Bob, Donald, Leslie.
Below, same day, family reunnion 1983, Floyd (Papa) on left.
Leslie & Betty's wedding photo - 1949, other folks not identified.
Leslie & Betty's 30th Anniversary photo, 1979. They had at least nine kids. I recall one was killed, maybe
on graduation night. Since they lived 65 miles away we didn't get to know the kids well.
The two jokesters, Bob and Leslie, flank Nanny in 1998. I can still hear them laughing.
Nanny & Leslie, Labor Day, 1999, Probaly at Leslie's in Escanaba. The youngest and surviving sibling as of 2014.

occasion of Tynne & Wally's anniversary, 1982.

later years moved back to Gladstone, near Escanaba. Still later they moved to Virginia,

Below, Leslie & Nanny, no date but probably 2003?

Butch & Sharon a trifle younger.

Nanny's Aunt/Sister/Friend Lempi Ranta. She was informally adopted by Nanny's Mother's family,
making her an aunt but so near in age that they were more like sisters. A couple early shots, the
first s formal shot made into a postcard, below left marked 1926, the right "confirmation picture".

Lempi married Arnie Posio who is also in photos with Floyd (Papa) on his high school track team. They lived,
as I remember it, in Neguanee, about 11 miles west of Marquette.

daughter Loretta's high school grad photo. Lives in Neveda.
A holiday card to the Ferguson's from the Posios, 1963, and a family shot: Carolyn center with sister Loretta on her left
and daughter on her right, Lempi seated. Carolyn lives in lower Michigan. Not sure what year Arnie died
but he was way too young.

I cropped the holiday card to get closer in.
Those close, life-long friends, Nanny & Lempi in Nanny's daughter Darlene (Gus)'s
kitchen during a summer picnic, 1992.

Not sure who's grave this is, so many died young. It's certainly in Chatham.
