The Christmas tree was such a big thing in those days for us growing up. Nanny would put cotton
batten "snow" on the limbs, along with the lights, bulbs & tinsel. Gus & Patty would often lead us, when the
adults weren't home, in pre-opening packages sent by Walter and Edna Ferguson, grandparents in Detroit.
So we deprived ourselves of the surprise Xmas morning.

Dusty's birthday party, 1957. What a neighborhood crew. My early good friend Bruce Voght
sitting on the left front. He died of cancer way too young. Lived in Kansas, lost touch. bumped into
him a few times when we were both back in town. He was a good athlete but took up smoking.

1956 Tom, Steve, Patty, Sandy McCoullough, Tommy LaRue, Dusty, Petie LaRue.
Tommy later left town, lived in New Orleans, and other places - died also of cancer. Well
loved & respected - many came all the way from New Orleans for his funeral.

Steve, Dusty, Patty, Tom 1956 that could be a Saturday Evening Post on that shelf.

Some of our dogs: Lady, a collie that we think one of the neighbors poisoned. Nanny told me to go
down the basement and check on Lady because she thought she heard her scratching during the night.
She was laying there cold... I hugged her and cried.

Our neighbor Willard gave us these dogs. He kept Sparkplug, on the right and we kept Freckles. Once
they bound in the house and tasted some fruit cake fresh out of the oven. Nanny got so mad she made them
eat the whole thing, or so she claimed. I think I see the Willie's Jeep in the driveway.

Nanny, Steve and Freckles. He took to chasing porcupines, biting them and returning with a mouth full of
quills. The vet said, ty him up because he's going to want revenge. We were careless and sure enough, he
came back again, even worse. We took him to the police station. They had a 55 gal. drum converted to a gas
chamber. They'd hook up their exhaust pipe to it. I watched Freckles trustingly jump in, look quizzickly at
a dead cat and look at us as the door closed. Stayed with me all these years. The glue residue there is from
being in one of my photo books. I had added baloons with silly dialogue.

not sure which sibling Nanny is fussing over here.
